YouTube Review of the Day: Bad Romance

December 18, 2009

On the first day of its release, this video received one million hits- that’s pretty incredible. But what’s so special about this video?  One of the main reasons is that it’s Lady Gaga; she comes up with new crazy things to do each and every video she does, so people were interested in seeing what the new video had to present. Not only that, there was buzz being spread around about the video BEFORE it was actually released…mostly positive buzz, this is also perhaps why people wanted to see the results and compare their expectations?

Another reason I reckon there were so many hits is because it showcased designer Alexander McQueen’s lastest collection.  Gaga didn’t know how to release her new single, and thus decided to play it during Alexander McQueen’s fashion show, at the end of the runway. By wearing his clothes on her video, she paid tribute to his aid in advertising her single. McQueen is a world famous British designer, and by playing her song she obviously made a very smart move. Psychology student Fnan Ysahak excitedly said, “Gaga has become a fashion icon by presenting different pieces of fashion items and gowns in her videos and exploiting them for the world to see, I like that aspect of her videos.”

I mean the reason it appealed to so many people worldwide is because it is new, freaky and strange! We are curious about what we don’t understand…and I don’t think a lot of people understand her. Her songs are typical, catchy, mainstream pop songs and partnered with her outrageous image and style, add the weird videos, how wouldn’t this appeal to anyone? People watch this video because they either want to hear the catchy song that is stuck in their head, or try to understand what the heck is going on in that video. Perhaps even both!

The fashion industry has wrapped itself around the music and media industry ever so delicately over the past decade and today Lady Gaga has become a fashion icon for the Haute Couture lines! Fnan continues, “She has given fashion a chance to gain more coverage from mainstream media. People that are not interested in fashion usually never catch a glimpse of this side of the industry and if they do, they are scared of it. Gaga is slowly changing the game and I like that. This is a way for fashion to be thrown out there for the world to see. People who care, people who don’t care, this new way of advertising fashion is targeting anyone it can, whether it is planned out or not, it is working for the benefit of the music and fashion industry and not to mention Gaga.”

This is her way of paying him back and advertising his collection on her video. It’s working because everyone is talking about the clothes she is wearing and those ten inch heels she is wearing on the video…Ouch!

Whether this is your thing or not, check it out anyway, it’s worth a watch!

I absolutely love this video, especially the Alexander McQueen shoes- all of them.
No wonder, Nicola Formichetti is one of the best stylists!!

I love when fashion and music mix! Gaga is crazy but she pulls off McQueen’s shoes so well!

Plus the song is awesome too 😉
