This special five part feature will give you the details on all things Eco- fashion. From the upcoming trends to where you can buy the latest eco clothing items. So stay logged onto Cosmo Culture to find out more…

Forget body-con dresses and Jimmy Choo shoes; environmentalism is fast becoming the trend to talk about next season.

Environmental issues have just  recently started to crop up in our everyday lives, whether it be recycling or using energy saving lightbulbs, being environmentally friendly will not only help you feel good  but in turn will also help the environment you live in.

The Eco revolution first began with food: organic, chemical free, cruelty free, locally grown. The makeup industry soon caught on as companies moved away from animal testing and advertised ethically pure products. And now the fashion industry is echoing the world’s environmental worry.

As Coco Chanel said, “Fashion is not something that exists only in dresses. Fashion is in the sky, in the street; fashion has to do with ideas, the way we live, what is happening.”

Maybe the industry has finally realised that it won’t survive in this changing world without altering its ways.

It maybe the buzzword in the Eco-fashion Industry at the moment, but what does it actually mean?

Eco fashion is all about using sustainably smart fabrics, taking into account the environment,  the health of consumers and the working conditions of people in the fashion industry.

An Eco Fashion item must have these essentials:

  • Created using organic raw materials, such as cotton grown without pesticides
  • Made from recycled and reprocessed items, i.e- second hand clothes
  • Have not been involved with the use of chemicals and pesticides to colour fabrics.

With eco-fashion now becoming mainstream, celebrities are jumping on the bandwagon with Cameron Diaz, Penelope Cruz, Leonardo DiCaprio, Orlando Bloom and George Clooney all being passionate eco supporters and wearing eco friendly clothes.

The reaction has been highly positive, environmentalist Kate Noble explains, Fashion is great marketing. If we can harness that marketing to get the sustainability message out there then, absolutely, we should be doing it.”

Ada Zanditon who graduated at LCF is a sustainable designer. She uses organic fabrics as well as “waste” to create fashion. Even in her workroom for example she’s only using eco friendly light bulbs.
She’s taking the whole eco trend one step further and that’s what I really like about her.

I agree, Ada Zanditon is a fantastic eco designer. The thing I like most about her work is the use of bold colours and the sculpturally innovative garments she designs.

Stay tuned in to Cosmo Culture to find out more about Ada in our special interview with her…
